Surreal Reality
The dreamlike tapestry of the Ganges that had
another visitor at its threshold is Mr. Narendra Modi. As I watch the live
telecast of the Ganga aarti which sees a gigantic depiction of
not only a simple visit to the sacred river of India, it transgresses more than
that. It is the inclusiveness of our aspirations, a pro-Bhartiya Janata Party wave that flowed in
the country sweeping Indian National Congress by its feet.
A candidate along with being an eloquent speaker
also electrifies the ambiance with his charisma that exudes promising leadership. The grand assemblage here in Varanasi is synonymous with a Prime Minister
candidature that is seen of a strong stature.
Speculations are being made that it is the ‘end of
secularism’ with the onset on Modi who will be heading from New Delhi after May
20th, 2014. But I hope it isn’t. It is not the negation of faiths
and religions, but is working in the constructively positive manner by uniting
the likes of Shias and Sunnis, and Hindus. If analysed demographically, BJP worked day in-and-out to send its Prime Ministerial candidate to
every key area where the party had shaky groundwork and where they could expand
their voter base.
The majestic gathering is unlike the militant
Hinduism of Ayodhya that smeared BJP off of its ‘glocal’ importance and the
very pulse of the nation that shook the roots of the then opposition. It is the
amalgamation of citizens’ hope, new political power shift and a fresh start of
the Indian polity.
Like always, voters have already started eagerly
waiting for the agendas in the manifesto to turn to reality. All we have to do
is to wait.
